Why is there a list of known WiFi networks in my airodrop-ng output?
As you can see in the airodrop-ng output, there is a list of known WiFi networks. This list is obtained from the client station’s Probe Request, which is a special frame sent to request information from access points in the area.
The list of known networks consists of all the networks that the computer has successfully connected to and marked as “Auto-Connect” by the system.
However, this can be a security concern as attackers can reply to the probe request with a fake access point, created to sniff your data. This can be done using various tools, including your own operating system, by creating a hotspot with the same name as the network your computer is probing.
To learn more about this topic and understand the potential risks, I recommend reading the article here and checking out the WifiPhisher tool.
Unfortunately, you cannot disable this feature as it is essential for inter-AP roaming.
